Rupert Sheldrake put it quite convincingly that the AI will never be conscious while it's running on a digital computer system, but when it's connected to quantum computing we will re-introduce quantum level possibilities for quirk and weirdness, and then it'll start taking the shape of a being that's off doing it's own thing. Looking forward to this moment, things will probably start to move very quickly then (or stop entirely with an abrupt end)
