I have talked about AI art with people before and they don't seem to understand the problem. My job has me doing a lot of drawing and animating. And I will admit that I do use existing images (almost always lineart) as a base or reference for how to draw stuff (i tend to struggle the most with human body proportions and drawing animals). But I make sure that it's very much transformative use and not a copy paste job with a different color palette. There are a big number of drawings i made from scratch though, one of which became a card that sells very well. It would be absolutely devastating if those art pieces are thrown into an AI art generator and used for profit. And in case of things like that popular card i designed, it would absolutely substitute the market as copycats sell the exact same thing for cheaper. And if that happens with all of our products, we'd go out of business. That's bad enough, but we're not a typical business. We are a place for people incapable of getting a regular job due to disabilities or background. It's more of a healthcare/training location instead of a business looking to make profit. If we can't break even, prove that we can afford the high end equipment or show that we can actually give our employees the care and help they need, we could very well loose funding. And that makes it harder for the people we'd normally have working with us to find a regular job or even get them out of their houses. And it would have a big negative impact on these people. So yes, AI art could have horrifically bad effects on individual artists or people working for art companies.
