The future just around the corner is AI replacing hundreds of thousands of bored office workers and worn out, redundant physical laborers.
The future on the horizon is hordes of unemployed rotting away at home, with the modern day equivalent to Bread and Circuses: Welfare SNAP, Home Delivery and Social Media.
The future below the horizon... but there, even so... is mass extinction.... Partly through ennui and social suicide ... mostly through engineered viruses, with only the Elite having access to the antiviral or vaccine.
