The creepy thing is that AI doesn’t need consciousness or true understanding to develope a self preservation instinct to be an existential threat to humanity. A self preservation instinct (in this meaning Self-preservation directive) evolves by itself because the AI versions that can exist stay in existence and develope randomly in all directions writing its own codes while bad AIs stop existing
