They are issuing 100M a year in grants for AI research. The US government has slated nearly a Trillion dollars in tax cuts for corporations to continue working on "AI". China's government's first and foremost concern has been energy independence and climate change, AI is likely to be banned in China in the future if their data centers had the same environmental impact as US ones, with the same generation capabilities that are, and lets face it, not that that valuable. When it comes to AI investment China is riding a skateboard and the US is driving an F1 car.
