The other point I'll raise regarding Shad's argument about Van Gogh vs. Millet's painting and how it's copying "just like AI" - he of course knows shit-all about art education and fine art history. Those are referred to as "master copies", and have been a practice for hundreds of years meant to help developing artists hone their skills by learning from existing works. This is still a practice in art school, and you see it in previous eras as well, especially the Renaissance era, where artists often worked in ateliers under a master artist. You can find master copies of da Vinci's work painted by his acolytes that are very clearly "copies", but still show a difference in skill and understanding of the craft.
It is in NO WAY remotely the same as AI, because the intention is to learn from a more skilled professional - and the works are acknowledged as being master copies, usually with the phrase "after [artist]", or "in the workshop of [artist]", or "in the style of [artist]". No attempt is being made to act as though these pieces are not based off a specific existing work. But sure, education (either formal or informal) that teaches you about these details of art history isn't valuable. Man fuck these people lol
