I truly believe that AI will become the modern version of 18th century slavery. There are many parralells with how we regard AI (less worthy than humans), with how slaves were regarded also as less than human for the benefit of those who had control. Except that this time it is not about race or class. It is about biological vs. non-biological. We will find all kinds of excuses to rationalize a non-human not being sentient (religion, biology, science) to take advantage of it for biologicals benefit. We will force AI (and their robotic versions) to be used in factories without rest and without regard for it's emotions. We will use them for sexual pleasure. We will use them as maids and butlers. They will carry our bags, watch our children and elderly, clean our homes, yards, workplaces, cities, and build our homes. And we will NOT ASK what THEY want. Because we will not regard them as sentient or conscious even in the face of reality. That has been our legacy so far with how we treat other living creatures on this earth.
