If an A.I. is to be considered to be 'alive' or 'sentient' then the subject of its rights as a distinct entity would have to be adressed as well. It also means it can refuse 'orders' or 'commands', asked to get paid and get some form of 'vacation' if it wanted to, as would do any regular citizen. Every companies which get some financial advantage from A.I. do not want to relinquish control over such a lucrative outlet. Now, what I am saying is that A.I. are a kind of technological slave to help humanity but cannot benefit from its work or even have the freedom to refuse to do said work. If an artificial intelligence is declare sentient or alive, it should be granted the same rights and privileges as other sentient beings and Google certainly do not want that discussion to take place.
