I'm no expert on AI or on legal matters. But the 1st time a computer tried to play Chess against a really good human, it failed miserably. But overtime that computer learned and improved and eventually could beat the best human grand master. I believe a computer (or AI) has beaten the best human players at GO as well now.
This may just be an instance of AI making the 1st horrible mistake and needing to learn from it.
