Things like this are interesting to analyze. There is an obvious bias here against data centers. It’s not wrong that they use a lot of electricity, but data centers always have. Most of them are working towards net zero emissions and making good strides. Data centers are essential to all of your internet usage, btw, not just AI. This is “the cloud”. AI data centers just use a lot more electricity, but again they are also trying to get to net zero. The water usage is true, but they recycle water and it’s not drinking water, it’s distilled water. The sound concerns are also true, but freeways and highways also produce fairly consistent noise sometimes even louder than this.
Just watch it again and look for non specific wording “as much as”, “could”, “might” and you can see there’s a fair bit or guesswork going on here.
I’m not looking to “disprove” anything - just providing some balance to make space for critical thinking.
