Went to an art school with a strong focus on contemporary art and guerilla art. Generally we viewed things like "the fountain" and "the comedian" as something you needed some level of acclaim to be able to pull off, so weather the statement behind the art was original or not, or was something you liked or not, you at least had to put some time to be able to do something like that. So that's strike one against the AI art comparison. Also both of these pieces weren't passing themselves off as some hand made sculpture that took hours to complete, they were very obviously low effort and kind of low-brow...what we now call trolling. So this said, I wish people weren't trying to replace human artists with AI, or trying to pass off AI images as stuff they actually made, since there are afew niche uses I don't mind...Or actually 2... Which is people who aren't super artistic generating art for their DnD/TTRPG characters in private games when they just wouldn't have had a picture of their character otherwise and also generating memes for in-jokes at work or some other small group where you aren't really monetizing your memes. This said, there are other ways to make a customized character image for TTRPGs without AI (taking screenshots of heroforge, dressing up videogame characters and taking screenshots) and making memes with MS paint or basic photoshop skills is kind of classic. These two niche areas where I don't think AI is terrible do not make up for the rest of it's terrible effects on the world and artists.
