Great that you put up Salesforce as the first example because it shows perfectly what goes wrong.
Management try to cut cost by laying off customer support because they label them useless wanting to replace them by AI.
Few months later, it happened what had to happen:
Customer satisfaction plummeted.
Thousands and thousands of cases where AI Support was either completely wrong or even did more damage than prevent damage.
Estimate of Damages? Millions or even billions plus, of course, the cost of AI implementation.
Worse than that, they basically had to re-hire the people they laid off which drove salary cost higher than before because of shift of negotiation power.
Now again, over 3.000 people were re-hired. This did not even make nearly as much news as the layoffs.
And many companies are using AI as an excuse for layoffs because they simply managed badly in recent years and don't have money anymore.
