I'm an artist (yes, even sold works) and I'm ok with people using AI to generate images for their own consumption. I'm even ok with these systems scraping the web and learning from all the material because that's literally how WE do it - looking at other people's works (or photos of natural things) and then taking bits of all of that an incorporating it into our own work... I mean, do you REALLY all those artists whose style look like they're all ex-employees of Disney or Warner Bros just hit on those styles by total coincidence? 90% of furry art tends to be the same BNFA's works rehashed and recycled. BUT, the core difference is that genAI systems retain a MASSIVE collection of elements (and to be clear, no - they do not store every single picture as if they were a database, that's not how it works - they break pictures down into elements that are then described like 'blue brush stroke in this direction' and tagged as a feature like 'shirt sleeve') which gives them a massive advantage over a person. Worse, most people confuse craft with art. Craft is HOW you make it. Art is what you make. So we give high value to polished, professional... dare I say commercial art (a term that used to synonymous with 'bad art'), while missing the truly creative pieces that look rough or sketchy, because we're so conditioned to favor craft over art. Also, AI isn't creative - it's basically a very advanced relation finding and probabilistic prediction system. That's why you can't enter the same prompt in repeatedly and get back exactly the same output... it's always adjusting the relationship weights. It's as creative as shuffling a deck of cards where each card has a body part of some sort, then picking out the first 6 one each for a head, two arms, two legs and a torso and then making the lines fit together. So in a real sense - it's not art, and people who get good at writing prompts aren't artists.
