He's talking about prophecies. Capabilities he thinks will manifest in the future but do not exist in the now.
In it's current state AI is largely oversold. Can you point out ONE customer service chatbot that does not suck? Neither can I.
The CURRENT state of AI is that it is unreliable and unpredicable. Yes it is very helpful as a research tool, art generator, or coding assistant. But that's as far as it goes.
It's like being in 1925 and predicting that cars would go 1000mph or airplanes would go 10,000mph in a hundred years. Simply because back in 1925 the belief was that if there was only a more powerful lightweight motor - then speed limitations would be eliminated. But that's not how it worked out. Once the motor problem was solved - other speed limitations became apparent and have yet to be solved.
People need to stop listening to these dooms day scenarios. Play with AI and challenge it. The limitations will be obvious. The LLM is a marvelous invention - but has limitations. The danger is trusting it too much.
