Reports & documentaries like this make me cringe in fright. Perhaps, we might be building smarter students, but at what cost? How prepared are we for the possible consequences in the long-term? There a number of immediate red flags that are obvious in the development and applications of #ArtificialIntelligence way... From a #TechnologyGovernance and #DigitalDevelopment perspective, so many unanswered questions are particularly troubling: 1) How are the #Data generated by these #Devices used...? 2) How are they stored and transmitted...? 3) What happens to the data after the learning relationship between the school and the student has ended...? 4) Who holds #Control or #Sovreignty over these data...? The students? Their parents? The #government? The #TechCompanies that produce the devices? 5) What standards & regulations are applied in the development & applications of these devices...? No one would want to see their child disqualified or denied a job placement many decades later, simply because an AI system revealed to potential employers that the person seemed to have had issues with attention span & concentration as a college student many years ago. I have advocated for an approach to #AlgorithmicIntegrity in #MachineLearning applications of Big Data for #ArtificialIntelligence, as a way of building greater trust in the behavior of #AI without obscuring the utilities of #ML and #BD for problem-solving...
