People are not so much upset that China can compete, but overall-across all products, China shows no scruples. They constantly violate patent law and can undercut other nations by paying their employees shit wages. People are sick of China's lack of respect for intellectual property. They also constantly try to deceive consumers with false advertising to make cheap crap appear revolutionary until the product arrives and you open the box. These robots may appear better or worse than a western robot, but people have an overall bad taste from Chinese companies disrespecting consumers and international laws. I would rather buy a domestic product that was developed with original thought, ingenuity and grit by employees that are treated very well, even if it was slightly less quality. They say business is business, but I feel business should have rules of conduct too. There's even rules in war. Personally, I will never have a need for a robot, so I will never be able to compare, nor will I feel the need to. I'm referring to business ethics over all products and services. I question the ethics of anything coming out of China. I love the Chinese people, but in a communist nation like this, all companies are linked to the CCP. I do not want to support a communist system who does not believe in a free market governed by laws, but rather they believe in competing at all costs in an economic war against the rest of the world. It is more than business for them. It is a war for economic dominance of the CCP over other governments. Everything in China bows and answers to their CCP overlords even to the point of breaking the laws of other nations to carry out their agenda. As a creative person myself, it is offensive. I am held back by fear of developing an idea only to have someone in China rip my idea out from under me and sell it for half price through what might as well be slave labour and cheaper components. Why would anyone up against that threat ever want to innovate?
