I think the thing that I dislike the most about AI art is that when I want to find reference for something I'm drawing, all that comes up when I search for images like MORE THAN HALF THE RESULTS IS BOGGED UP WITH AI PROMPTS. When I look up certain things for reference, I want to find actual examples of other artists who make art manually or photos of real people, not stuff a computer smashed together. It feels like there was no care in the fine details. For example, if you are making fanart of a character in generative AI, it can never get it exact. There are always differences that bother me as a viewer. I'm not saying that the art needs to look like a carbon copy from the source material, but I've noticed there is always something off, and it's noticiable if you are familiar with the character. Like the AI doesn't think of key components of designs and will just find something it deems most similar overall. AI art feels like you are getting a commission, and you have to keep asking the artist to adjust things for you. At that point, wouldn't that make the AI program the artist and not you? Since it is creating all the results for you? When I draw on my ipad, my ipad isn't doing it for me. I'M DOING IT. It's like pencil and paper but just on a screen. While AI is typing an idea of something you want but then the program chooses and compiles things FOR YOU. YOU ARE NOT THE ONE DOING IT. As a comparison, saying "I want [insert idea/details here]" in the prompt box is essentially like asking someone else to do the work. If you don't like what was produced, you just keep tweaking the prompt. It is like asking someone to make you cookies in a certain way, and they return with three plates of cookies they made. You say, "This first plate is no good, but the second is closer but too soft, and the third could be less sweet. Go remake the cookies, but this time, bake them longer and add less sugar." And you go in a cycle until you get your desired cookies. But YOU are not making the cookies. You are RECEIVING them created by someone, or in this case, SOMETHING else. That I why I don't think AI "Artists" who write the prompts are artists. At that point, the AI program is the artist.
