Also studied language and lived in a foreign land/culture, which changed and enriched my life. Went in a different career direction, but the experience and the knowledge still positively impacts my life. Even today when I travel, I spend time cramming the language of the destination. Just that small ability to read a menu, make a reservation, order food, thank and greet people makes every experience better.
Which brings up the question of AI removing the need for people to think and to create and problem solve. It makes us lazy. I talk into my phone in English and my phone speaks Italian/French/Spanish/Japanese to the waiter or taxi driver or concierge.
