I’m way late for the live show, but FYI @themajorityreport – hot meals are *not* automatic (or even widely given) for EBT recipients in California. As someone who has worked with navigating services for unhoused, aging, & disabled folks in SF Bay area for approx 2 decades— pls pardon my long comment– but hopefully a) it’s generally informative & b) it’s helpful, if anybody needs intel on CA benefits.. (especially during this unpredictable time). It’s called the restaurant meals program or RMP and typically it’s for folks who are unhoused, and who choose to share that info with their worker at sign-up. In that case, that person can get a specific qualifier set on their EBT card, which allows them to purchase RMP meals.. but *only* at a very, very select few retailers, and only in certain California cities & counties. So it’s also a matter of whether one can even find them, or access the program to begin with, as not all CA counties are required to participate. You have to like go into the interactive map thingy at the California EBT website, and find the retailers/restaurants who take care part using a key & map system, for wherever you are in the state. RMP is also supposed to be for folks over the age of 60 and/or the disabled, but its use is generally associated with unhoused folks – which makes sense. Cuz, if you don’t have a kitchen or refrigeration, then how are you supposed to cook meals? And a lot of the food that one buys likely ends up getting wasted, because you obviously can’t store it safely without refrigeration. AND. none of these benefit qualifiers are automatic, they have to be set up at Cal fresh / SNAP sign-up. OK, that is all! Carry on. =•)
