As an artist. I 've studied and looked at TONs of artwork to better hone my craft. Every artist is "inspired" by other artists and artwork they've seen before. I can easily draw Iron Maiden's mascot Eddie, because I've studied dozens of images of Eddie. The AI algorithms work in a similar fashion, only much faster. If I were to draw a picture of Mickey Mouse right now, it's because I know what he looks like from looking at hundreds of images of him. AI is pretty much doing the same thing.
