I don't think they used ChatGPT just to find cases to cite. I think they used ChatGPT to write the entire briefing or memo or whatever the filing was. Copy-pasting large amounts of text from one program to another can cause weird things like font changes and whatnot, especially if it was copy-pasted in sections instead of all at once. But also the fact that the transcript shows ChatGPT basically trying to say "I can't legally do that" gives a huge hint that at some point not in the transcript, it was probably asked something like "write a legal brief that argues [whatever they designated] with full case citations."
