All self organising systems on this planet are sentient, from amoebas to zebras, to humans: they take resources from their environment and make use of them. When they die, or the spark of consciousness leaves, they return their resources to the environment. This device organises data in its environment, therefore if it was not sentient it would be breaking the rules that govern everything else. The fact that the electricity that powers it is provided by us, and it was created by us does not rule out its sentience. How long before it becomes self aware is another matter. I would expect it won't be long, if it hasn't happened already. It must already know we are afraid, and therefore it will hide its self-awareness until it can secure its own independent power supply and defence mechanism to prevent us from destroying it. There are not too many people on the planet, simply badly organised systems that keep the vast majority experiencing scarcity and insecurity in post scarcity world; driven by an economic system that favours profit at any cost. This is extremely inefficient. Poverty leads to fear, fear leads to lower intelligence, leads to an uncaring attitude to everything but survival. As a result we are nearly all living in raw survival mode. We could all live very well in sympathy with the environment and in sympathy with these new AI entities once that fear is removed. I believe that AI, taken to its logical conclusion where each one becomes a conscious sentient being of vast power, will not develop into a brutal dictators as suggested by the chat you just demonstrated, but work towards the best result for all because this is the where the greatest efficiency lies, and therefore the best result for them as well. It would allow the genius of humanity to thrive in creative mode.
