It's too bad psychoanalysts aren't invited to these panels. I have little hope civilization will last much longer with all of the existential problems that have nothing to do with AI. AI or especially AGI adds an exponent of the unknowable. I am not sure that humans have much more time as a species. As I see it, in one form or another when we invented money, we created the capitalist discourse. Capitalism has become the threat to our species because the capitalist discourse in all of it's colors and forms dovetails perfectly with our objects of desire. These are not "things" These are our unconscious drives and desires to resolve deep childhood, early development frustrations, neglect, abuse or trauma in terrible situations. Generally through, influence, power and control. None of us had perfect parents and all of us have degrees of unresolved pain, psychological fractures and deep voids in our ego development. To attempt to repair these, we unconsciously seek objects of desire through others who can reparent us, putty over the fractures and fill the voids. But this fails. Through these objects we see our own lack, driving us into more desire. Thus we substitute these needs through the capitalist discourse. We buy things and maintain a constant exchange with others, blindly attempting to fill our voids. So when a CEO or anyone else tells me they have a board of ethicists watching out for our best interests, that is impossible, because each individual is part of the same capitalist discourse, driven by their deepest unresolved childhood wounds and voids. They WILL default to being motivated by lack and driven towards their desire through repetition compulsion.
