By obfuscating their power behind corporate jargon like "efficiency" and "mandatory training programs," they avoid the kind of direct public backlash a traditional king might face. So they decided to be shadow rulers. It's not just OpenAI. Look at Meta. Recently they made headlines for instilling mandatory program to train AI on their mouse movements and keystrokes. They will know if you're not compliant. They are reigning in the workforce. You do their bottom line, while the powers at be, who they have chosen to be in their posts, get richer. AI was not a study or class in school, not even I think they made a specific degree and would just lump you into CS degree for it (doesn't mean you know AI or are qualified to be the one doing it first). No one went to school for AI until recent developments, yet they pick and choose who can enter their front door to do their work. No they aren't literal kings or royalty, but in a way they have achieved shadow ruling. Because they learned, that when you're royalty, it's easy to be identified and have a target on your back. So best not let the peasants know who is the head of each company (king of the kingdom). They've seen how they are happy with having multiple heads as long as they can exist. 😅 If a system is watching closely enough to learn how to do your job, it’s also watching closely enough to micromanage your every second, flagging any dip in "compliance" or productivity. It strips away human agency and reduces an employee to a raw data stream.
