In the age of ChatGPT Ai the use of exams and verbal cross examination to gauge students understanding is not critical. For many years especially in the UK continuous assessment was seen to be fair the advent of AI has just shown this to be a folly and to be a stupid as most people thought it was in the first place.
There is room for continuous assessment personal projects and people of course will use AI to try and help devise into Write those personal projects but like in a PhD the student has to be cross examine to make sure that they understood and understand what they're written what they presented. Even engaging this misunderstanding AI could be used to do the interview to test the students understanding of the subject area so it may not cause any more workload on the teaching staff to do this :-)
