Guys, I'd like to point out a thing about the 'please regulate us' -argument being made by some major AI players. It's not what you said about them being like an addicted gambler. The cryptoexchanges were essentially making the same argument some years ago, but like the AI groups they don't want to actually be regulated in the sense of having any oversight or limitations put on their work. The 'please regulate us' card is played mainly for 3 reasons:
-It allows them to try and use lobbying to mire any regulation process in years of preparatory work while funneling money to political groups and candidates favorable to their own goals
-In conjunction with the previous point they're going to try to use 'regulation' as a means of gate-keeping access to the industry/market and thus keep their market share large
and finally
-since they know they're likely to cause some shit eventually and therte are going to be major calls for regulations by the governments (this is where crypto is currently at with many of the big players having fallen or at risk of falling) they can then play the card of 'see we were calling for regulations earlier, we're not the bad guys here, we wanted regulations all along and have been eagerly waiting for them"
Basically: it's a standard business/lobbying tactic to give them more time and leeway to act as they please, and shouldn't be read as anything other than that.
