As an artist. I believe AI has a place in upscaling older media as well as seeing in in frame gen and res upscaling in games.
But AI has a really rough time with data collection exactly what you want without hallucinating if you are looking for specific things. Because these language models are designed to "succeed". AI art is like an unregulated kitbash. Pulling components and assets from other works to make an "original" work that still looks too clean, too polished and yet still off somehow.
I use AI to upscale old low rez media references so that I have a better idea of what I'm looking at. Stylized text letters from sources that don't have a font language can be hard to duplicate accurately. So upscaling and have a LLM make educated guesses based on the pixels around it is far more efficient than by hand. That's how a TOOL increases work flow.
However using LLMs to produce work via prompt makes you an art director at best and the LLM the artist basing it's style on what you referenced and asked for.
