As a former AI developer (former psychologist and current software engineer) I have few contentions: - Some AI companies CEO's claim there will be new and more jobs. What they don't say is what kinds of jobs they are (not everyone can do anything) and they also don't and can't say if those jobs are able to supplement, replace or even outdo the jobs that will be lost due to AI and robotics. - Some argue that these fears are not new and that historically tech has created more jobs. That may have been true some* of the time. But it would be an Argumentum ad Historiam (appeal to history) logical fallacy to say that is always true/untrue. Fact of the matter is that sometimes that is true, sometimes it isn't true. There is a reason why nobody making this claim is able to give any examples of said hypothetical jobs. - Let's say that AI creates more jobs. Great! But what kind? Due to my educational background I know that not all personality types fit for all kinds of jobs. AI and automation eliminates job variety and this is a major problem with these arguments and topics. Someone who has done physical labour all their life may never be able to do the kind of high expertise analytical office job and visa versa. Historically job variety and flexibility has been one of the major reasons that has allowed different kinds of population to work but when AI eliminates a lot of these job types away, then what? - The pervious point harms your own thesis as well that everyone will be essentially entrepreneurs. Except that's literally not how human cognition works. Some can. Sure. But not everyone. In fact the people who have the entrepreneurial personality type make up roughly 1% of human population. They are exceedingly rare. I am one of them, but I know many who positively are not. On an unconscious level your brian also recognized this because the way you framed it was to "future proof yourself so that you are on the right side of the equation". Yeah, and what if you happen to be on the wrong side of the equation? Well nothing. Absolute poverty, which is most people. See the issue with the McKinsey study is that it commits a sampling bias. People who already work as freelancers tend to have the entrepreneurial personality type already. There is a reason why most people don't do that already.
