+The Jimmy Dore Show it isn't just transportation at risk in the next decade, retail, warehouses, paralegals, doctors, and accountants all of these jobs are at risk because robots make less mistakes, they can work 24 hours a day and only have an upfront cost. -retail- self service checkouts are in their beta phase, not quite there but require less people to handle more registers. in addition inventory robots will be out in 5 years that will reduce staff needs further. -warehouses- robotic forklifts are already out and will get cheaper every year until you only need a manager and security guard, also they can unload the trucks. -paralegals- 90% of the work of lawyers and paralegals is research, sifting through thousands of documents, software bots are more accurate and can do the work of a team of paralegals in seconds instead of weeks, not available today, but it is in testing. -doctors- Watson is currently diagnosing lung cancer more accurately than doctors... the average human doctor makes a misdiagnosis 1/7 times, Watson is at 3/1000. reducing the number of needed doctors. -accountants- just like the warehouse... you need 1 manager (CPA) to check the work and the software bot will replace thousands of accountants. All of these professions add up to 30% of the US job market and we are 10 years from atleast half of them being replaced. the White House is severely underestimating the problem. even assuming all of these people don't get fired for the robot they will have to work harder for less money to earn the wage continuing our race to the bottom.
