I’ve been using ChatGPT a fair amount for programming, and it’s like having an unpaid intern doing the tedious work for you. Most of the skill involved in software engineering is problem solving - beyond that, getting the solution into readable/maintainable code is mostly mechanical - don’t get me wrong, it still takes skill (like painting a wall) but it’s not rocket science. AI seems to do well at that.
So I view it as a productivity booster - sort of what traction control and ABS and automatic transmissions did for driving
