Most of us outside the USA don't care where our AI comes from. If the USA ai corps can compete with open weight open source AI let them.. If they can't, ok, see ya! The point of open weight open source is that any corp can pick this up and provide AI as a service to customers for a few million euro in inference related hardware , instead of a few hundred million in training hardware x energy to train for 3 months + inference hardware. The free version of deepseek being offered right now is heavily censored but the version an independent company running the model elsewhere wouldn't have to be. It seems right to me that models trained on the human races entire data set should not be proprietary anyway.
