Sure, let's go with "being aware of itself". Is a car engine "conscious", because it has an ECU and is wired with a network of sensors, constantly collecting data on its operation, modeling its own internal state and adjusting things like fuel-air ratios and ignition timings in response? Is GPT-4 "conscious", because it can pass almost any self-awareness test you can throw its way? Our definition of "consciousness" is *beyond shit*. If tomorrow, it was revealed that 20% of humans somehow don't have consciousness, we'd never know for sure which 20% it is.
