The technology used probably costs more than the actual goods being shoplifted. This is exactly the problem I have with George Floyd's death (other than, you know, it being an obvious case of police brutality). The store called the cops over a $20 bill. Mathematically speaking, it would've been cheaper for the city to just pay the store $20 to cover the "damages" than it was to send out multiple cops and vehicles. From a pure fiscal conservative standpoint, sending cops over a $20 bill was a blatant waste of taxpayer money, and so is implementing expensive high-tech facial recognition systems to "catch shoplifters".
