To everyone with a depressed outlook. We're right at the start of dealing with this problem. This is D-Day. This is ground zero. A serious percentage of the world doesn't even believe in Global Warming.
Yet the developed nations of the world are still managing to reduce CO2 emissions.
The US, has a President that denies CO2 driven climate change. The US has still managed to become the world leader in reducing carbon emissions.
You've got to compartmentalise the problem. It's too vast for our tiny minds.
Part 1. The developed nations of the world need to become Carbon neutral by 2050. This is possible. Especially with escalating public pressure. The biggest barrier to achieving this aim is fear of nuclear and changing to electric heating/boiler systems.
Part 2. Put pressure on the developing world to follow suit through sanctions. This is going to take a lot longer and will likely need to be financed and managed partially by the developed world.
We will probably need to rely on some interm geo-engineering solutions to stabalise our climate at a set temperature due to the amplifying feedback loop associated with each degree of warming.
There is a very real possibility of our species getting on top of this problem before failing crop yields and our extinction.
Though some species are going to die. Some will move and adapt to the new world. Some won't. The polar bears may be fucked. But, we, the humans, may live.
You shouldn't be flippant about the nature of the problem. And, your right, there is very little you can do as an individual.
It's not your fault if the electricity in your home comes from coal. The scale of the problem requires it to be dealt with at a governmental level. Your power is in your vote. Vote for anyone taking the problem seriously. You don't have to vote green, but don't vote for climate change deniers or anyone who's avoidant in their message.
Protest when you can, and often. Convince your friends and family to do the same. You can m
