I dont know much about AI and deep learning outside of having played with Tensorflow and trained a generative chatbot with my friends but i know that the brain isnt truly amorphous, it is a collective made of individual parts designed to learn in certain ways and achieve certain functions. Likewise, a general sentient AI isnt one whole on its own, it will have to comprise of many AI ensembles. Like LSTM networks for language and culture, CNNs for vision, some sort of interface between the AI and its android body etc... organized hierarchically to give rise to more complex processes. So even if its preprogrammed, well if it is reprogrammable (of course it is), no reason a real AI couldnt be implanted into that via an interface. (probably going to have to be remotely controlled though no one is going to fit a supercomputer into that for years, well until IBM truenorth reaches a higher processing powers or room temperature Quantum computers become a thing)
