The key is mechanically destroying old growth ecosystems and replacing with new. Old ecosystems, especially in forest understories are stable. They actually have a constant low level rate of emissions, be it GHG or nutrient pollution to the ocean. New ones are establishing understory and topsoil and spike GHG and nutrient pollution...this may ultimately lead to ocean dead zones, esp with loss of filter marshes. We’ve been pushing the nutrient pollution limit with both industrial agriculture (synthetic fertilizer), drying marshes for farms and haphazard deforestation/reforestation and fire management that we may be accelerating a process of ocean anoxia/euxinia that typically takes millennia into the span of a human lifetime. Not even talking about climate change impacts of increased precipitation.
