Since I'm old, I've already been laid off and replaced by AI, back when AI stood for Actual Indians... Like from India. Even though the company that canned me and my coworkers apparently felt they could get the job done cheaper with outsourcing, we were able to find jobs at other companies. The chilling effect AI seems to be having on hiring might not actually have anything to do with it being able to do the job of a junior engineer. Corporate leadership is generally a bunch of trend-sucking, group-thinking chickenshits who seek safety in avoiding being outliers. Just like during COVID when everyone was hiring just because everyone was hiring, now they're all waiting cuz everyone else is waiting.
