LNP did such a good job of regurgitating the rhetoric that they managed to convince the (majority of) nation that the carbon tax was a rort to fleece taxpayers of money for no added benefit. They abolished a global leading policy that reduced emissions with a 'direct action plan' which uses taxpayer money to incentivise big polluters to emit less, by paying them.
