Yeah, I suspect farmers in NE/IA/KS/IN/OH are more energized about trans people than climate change.

Here in Canada we've *started* to link increasingly frequent disasters and unprecedented weather -like wildfires, floods, tornadoes, grueling winters and boiling summers - to climate change in the news media. Yet there's still a strong vocal group that doesn't believe in this (mostly Boomers). It is good to note though that where I am from there's a strong youth movement / green campaign. A f…

It is because Africa doesn't have any *navigable* waterways that connect different cities. It is difficult to move goods around when you can't float it. Any inland trade has to go by road or air.

Cities don't use facial recognition, at least not so much in the US. However, plate scanners are commonplace despite having the exact same problems. All any cop has to do is park his car and silently track people all day, this can also be done 24/7 through UAVs. It is explicitly done in and around the southern border, and has been the case since the Bush years. And if trade show PR pamphlets are …

Hey Americans, don't forget to apply for a permit before staging your anti-authoritarianism rally. During the rally, be sure to stay within the barricaded area the police designate for your event. Don't yell at or make rude gestures towards the police present, or they may be forced to defend themselves. And, don't post about the rally on social media or your employer may find out and decide yo…

And if a child, dog or even a deer ran out into the street? One second delays? There are so many issues with how their code worked. There needs to be some sort of test that the vehicle must pass to prove that it can drive safely. Humans have to taken a written and driving test. An autonomous vehicle should have to prove that it can do well above and beyond what we test humans at. A rigorous tes…

Is the AR-15 the only gun you know? It’s not even automatic, police have actual automatic weapons which are deadlier, and handguns which are more effective in many situations despite not having a scary look.

A great example of how scientists or researchers can manipulate data for a desired headline.

I went to Cuba for 5 days in 2016. It was eye opening and a wake up call for how far their country has come, and how far is left to go. From Civil Rights to basic economies (every restaurant has pretty much the same menu because, well, communism) and the fact that two of my cab drivers were former doctors (b/c they get paid the same anyway) I don’t know, I think the culture is beautiful but the c…

In 2003 Dr.Lawrence Britt wrote an article about fascism and studied racist regimes from Hilter, Mussolini, Frank, Suharto, and Pinochet. i disagree the older generations, confusingly because of their formative years with soviets, stasi, orwell, philip k dick etc... they seem to be fine with faux news lies and facebook and cameras everywhere but there is serious pushback now from generation z on these questions https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/11/style/college-tech-recruiting.html >...But for Ms. Stapleton, now 34, the real a…

This makes me proud to be Canadian. The leadership through this has been incredable and I am not really even a big fan of Trudeau. Our government is doing an excellent job! Almost everyone in this beautiful country has stepped up. Fuck yah Canada!

I’d love to see nuclear be deployed more here in the states. Hopefully we can make strides on new reactor designs that bring costs down.

These days in Korea, progressives united and chaebuls, while still too powerful, got less organized. In America, rich folks solidarity is so strong. So sad.

Not sure if they were second poorest, but they were most definitely among the ~~top 10~~ poorest. Lower than Haiti in the 1960s (in terms of GDP per capita). [source] (https://www.forbeswoman.ge/en/post/southkorea) [Here] (https://countryeconomy.com/gdp?year=1965) it says Korea is 17th poorest in the world in terms of GDP per capita in 1965.

I'm guessing many of these professionals didn't vote for Brexit. It was more their version of the 'rust belt'.

Good point, but we would need coordinated distribution and vaccination for that to happen, or do it in stages within states and prohibit travel between the vaccinated and nonvaccinated areas. It doesn't seem like we have a plan right now based on evidence.

Not to mention: we don't need permanent immunity. We only need immunity for long enough that the virus dies out. Most people alive today are not immune to smallpox.
