You hit the nail on the head with swe - full disclosure, am mid level swe myself, but yeah, its something you have to be passionate about. The market is SO good at the mid to senior level, but so oversaturated at the junior level, where ability ranges from some excellent people to people who really need to put in another year or so of practice (not a dig at them, everyone learns at different rat…

People overestimate their own ability for reason and comprehension just because humans are the best at it, as far as we know. People do stupid things all the time, just different sorts of stupid things. How many people really understand even basic newtonian physics rather than just associating certain things with certain formulas and referencing some stored facts? The reason and understanding or…

I asked ChatGPT 3.5 (New) to translate it into English. Here it is One day, while the goat was happily hopping around the countryside, she met a hungry wolf who was watching her eagerly. The wolf approached the goat and said in a sweet voice, "Hello, beautiful little goat! What a great jumper you are! Would you be willing to show me a few jumps?" The goat was not afraid of the wolf, but she kn…

Ah yes, I'm sure the AI will be perfectly unbiased and free from outside influences instead.

[badgpt.org](http://badgpt.org) they have an evil chatGPT , and another model "freeGPT" which just does not have any moral limits

Downsizing because it officially costs less to just payout to the families than prevent ai incidents 😃

You kidding? I revel in the fact that the chatbot is literally incapable of saying bullshit things like “We’ve been working together for months and *I* see no improvement or effort. What are you trying to get out of your treatment?”

Wow, 10 comments in and I swear no one read the article. I was just listening to NPR talk about this hearing, so this was a good read to accompany it. He’s talking about fears of how AI will devolve society in ways worse than social media. Instead of creating the tech and then realizing the harm, he’s asking the harm be evaluated now and safeguards put in place. His specific example is the up…

AI is in its infancy, and if you watch the space, it's shown remarkable growth in a short time period. This looks like a losing battle to me. Short term, they might win this strike, idk, but in 10 years the industry will be completely changed due to the tech. It's pretty much inevitable. Many of us in other industries will be having to adapt and change careers/roles. This happens everytime t…

It’s actually not illegal. The article said specifically that there’s no clear basis that it’s illegal. But you’re right that this is not new. Deepfake porn has been around for nearly a decade and no one has ever gotten in criminal trouble for it. Even before deepfakes, what was to prevent someone from using Microsoft paint to copy a girl from school’s body and paste it onto a naked model? That s…

Did they do it deliberately? Or is it because chatgpt training logs are all over the internet? OpenAI is definitely not in a position to complain about the latter.

> The only difference is now even the unskilled can get reasonable facsimiles with little effort. That's a pretty major difference. Scale matters. Yes, perverts could make fake porn of famous people using photoshop before AI. But there was a hard barrier of having both the skill and the inclination to make those images, as well as the time it took to make them. Now any thoughtless asshole c…

Agreed.. Especially when data seems to be the bottleneck to AI being useful, and in a world where AI related companies are ripping to new all time high, trillion dollar valuations, 60m seems like peanuts

Ai and filters also seems like sort of a democratization of some kinds of sex work that may no longer limit the vocation to those born with certain traits. It’ll be interesting to see how industries react since porn has led the charge thru previous adoptions.

>>What was actually said was that the AI was doing the work of 700 people. There weren't actually 700 hired people that were let go because of AI as the disingenuous title implies. You must have missed this bit of the article ......... **Klarna outsources its customer services operations and has around 3,000 employees working in the department. A spokesperson told Tech.EU this would be re…

Absolutely, those small scale jobs are where AI excels at the moment: singular, one off jobs where perfect accuracy isn’t paramount and the person who needs the service can take the time to tweak the results themselves. And that’s going to be how it continues to go. A gradual, continual erosion of job opportunities as AI’s competency increases and expands; that at first is ignored or missed, an…

You're right with this as well. Because most AI that are consumer facing try to be neutral leaving the extremes on each end screaming bias. This is going to be used to program people en masse with propaganda via Faux Nooz/Fox News and other NoozCorp/News Corp outlets. Truly terrifying.

The first things to go are things that cannot be objectively measured or are very difficult to objectively measure. And things that follow strict rules in controlled environments, such that objective outputs are reliably achievable Art got hit first, it’s as non-objective as you can get The advent of high quality LLM / ML and falling demand will hit writers and editors hard. Already you can g…

Which is why I think the next stage of evolution of the internet is going to be more walled gardens, to keep things more personal with the AI out.

People are working hard to not pay for the arts because they feel it’s a privilege to work in the field. If we remove all jobs that can be replaced by AI, we’re essentially going to have people who work with their hands in 10 years. I don’t see how we’re going to continue having a capitalist society when large portions of the population are unable to work.
