Actually, the AI bros brought ableism into this discussion first. They insist that disabled people need AI to be as capable as able-bodied folks. They insist that anyone who is against AI is ableist. Truth is, the opposite is the case. AI art and its supporters are ableist and to deny that is to give them more credit than they deserve. To insist that ableism does not belong into this discussion i…

@Xeno056 bullshit. you can hire 100 people to train the AI for 1 year and pay them enough to set them for a life. who would refuse that deal when the alternative is to just starve tomorrow? meanwhile you got an AI that will work forever and replace tens of thousands of jobs.

That's what the universal basic income is supposed to address. Some people will be living at a base level while others will be collecting the money that their AI systems generate.

I agree, it's kinda normalising it and giving it a place to exist. I'm not sure it's possible to protest AI generated images by showing that it's... ok to use them?

when ai first came out, it was all the discussion about how to spot it/criticizing all the common mistakes. a big one was that ai couldn't do hands/added tons of extra fingers. wouldn't be surprised if because of that, it was the first thing that ai companies worked on when developing new models. nowadays, especially after the ghibli trend, the new giveaway/critique is the yellow tint that ai i…

May I ask why it's important to protect against facial recognition? I'm trying to get a better understanding of reddit's thought process here.

Because people making those decisions are not interested in what is best for the country, but for themselves. If, for example, some country decides to invest in green energy and reduce oil/gas import from US, lobbyists will swarm in like locusts to stop that.

That's not how algorithms work. The developers didn't model it after themselves. They built an algorithm that learned from patterns that were present on the website because of real world bias. People were more likely to engage with posts that featured attractive, young and light skinned people so that's what the algorithm determined users wanted to see.

Me too. But I’m a mechanic so the scripts to change brake pads automatically will be a real challenge

I feel like I turn around and there's a new class action for facial recognition in Illinois. I'm in several right now, hopefully they pay out as much as Facebook (or more)!

Inequality is required for capitalism to work. It's only gotten worse, so I don't see any meaningful change coming from AI.

My entire skillset is in the creative space, so I'm directly under the crosshairs of this and hyperfucked several times over. My only plan is to pivot hard into AI expertise to leverage the fact that a lot of people are still asleep on this. But the damn things are developing so fast that it seems like anything I learn will become obsolete immediately 🥲

Any training of AI should be done with some form of consent or compensation for the people whose data is being used. AI is here to stay, no problem with that, but we should all have our say in how we integrate AI in our lives.

This also applies to evidence by the way. Rich people with good defense attorneys will argue photos and videos of them committing crimes are deep fakes.

Always have been. Meritocracy is a myth. Literally. The word "meritocracy" was originally coined by a guy to mock the idea and then all the people who wanted to believe that being rich made them smart decided to use it unironically. Being rich does not make them smart, but it does mean they have power. So they were able to propagandize most people into believing them. https://kottke.org/…

Exactly. AI isn’t for you, it’s for the shareholders. Managements needs a new shiny thing to show them and AI is currently it.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. You don't deserve this. Especially not from someone who was supposed to be taking care of you, not taking advantage of you. As others have advised, you need to treat this as a criminal matter and report this to your local police. Also, run a full credit report, review it carefully to see if there are any other fraudulent accounts, and immediately freeze your…

The hand of AI is going to get less and less apparent as it becomes more and more integrated into peoples workflows. I've been doing some testing and people cannot tell my own art from AI trying to mimic it unless I point out the differences myself. Most of the media you see currently is already touched by AI, as much as probably 60% of it that isn't just generic podcast content. The majority…

But this begs the question... What exactly are YOU feeding it? I have in-depth conversations with the chatbot about my childhood, finding themes and patterns in my life and upbringing but I never have brought up a sleep paralysis demon. As such it hasn't given me any outlandish response yet.
