It’s the same issue with both avenues when it comes to AI: no matter how good it gets, it will always lack the promethean fire of creativity. It cannot make its own work without stealing from others, and its work has neither the meaning nor passion behind it that human creations do. Since there is no personality behind its works, one cannot read further into the works to learn about the ideas and…

A huge issue for manifacturing in Africa is securing electrical grids, because many countries don't have reliable electricity, which manufacturing for export definitely needs.

Karen Hao is brilliant. Everyone should read Empire of Ai. It is one of the single most impressive pieces of investigative journalism of our time.

Ah, yes. Evil dystopian robots. That's a great vibe for a robot marketing campaign. Other potential taglines: "Artisans can watch you while you sleep" "Artisans will never disobey orders... No matter what they are" "Hearts can fail. Heartless AI will never let you down" "The mind of our AI is so powerful it's incomprehensible" "As you die a slow and painful death, our Artisans will still be ther…

I think the bigger meta "story" is that we as humans are handing over tasks to "AI" (really just algorithms that can self-feed data and self modify at this point), often with little to no oversight, review, or understanding of how the whole thing works. This is happening EVERYWHERE, credit, insurance, medicine. It is very easy to draw the wrong conclusions from a set of data and do things that we…

I have a bachelor's in computer science. Code isn't hard though. If you try to explain what you want to automate I can send you in the right direction.

I say this as a software engineer who’s done some work in machine learning. We are nowhere near true AI. Not even remotely close. This is not the dawn of AI. Edit: Some of you really need to lookup the difference between machine learning and AI before commenting.

Yes, sort of. Sufficiently high-karma accounts may be more likely to have their posts visibility-boosted by the Reddit algorithms. Posts can contain obvious or subtle ads; they can also be used for opinion manipulation in general. So the "business model" is: create a bunch of bot accounts that automatically farm karma. Once an account gets high enough, sell or rent the account to people who w…

that part sent me, I thought maybe he said "mcdonalds" or something and the LLM interpreted it as it's name, re-read saw it 2 comments above and cackled. Why on earth would it have a need to even say that line?!

"IBM has pledged to get out of the facial recognition business entirely." Because they are so far behind that it's not worth it for them so they can use it for PR.

Equally as a therapist I’d like to chime in too. AI is helping us with the admin work but AI can’t have that same connection we get from human to human. I’ve deep dived a lot over the past 2-3 years to not only better understand my job but also to better understand the world around me. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that before that 10 years is up we will see AI come in even quicker than i…

Exactly, a GAN trains and creates 2 models, a generator and a discriminator. Usually, the discriminator is only used for training and is ignored as far as the final product goes. People caring about deepfakes means the discriminator is useful and wanted as well, but both models feed off each other. When one gets better, so does the other.

Here's a better answer: • Critical thinking • Mindfulness • Contentiousness • Loving oneself • Empathy and compassion for others • Integrity

another thing is censorship, too much censorship nowadays in US, with the banks. Few of the AI companies that I know like honeygf are the last ones left for uncensored industry

The thing that really gets me about the comment saying "Let AI do it and go spend time doing stuff you want" Oh stuff I want? Like struggling to make money and survive? How about working in a grocery store for the rest of my life? That sounds terrible to me, and not at all what I want to do. But it's what I'm stuck doing right now, because it's so impossible to find jobs in art-respective fields …
