Posts can contain obvious or subtle ads; they can also be used for opinion manipulation in general. So the "business model" is: create a bunch of bot accounts that automatically farm karma. Once an account gets high enough, sell or rent the account to people who want to do that kind of advertising and/or manipulation. Note that the ads would likely be in a completely different place than the original karma farming. For example, farm karma on a high-usage subreddit then use it to promote only fans links on low-usage but lucrative porn subreddits
