I actually remember hearing, maybe a decade ago by now, this museum using scans of classical paintings by a specific artist (don't remember which, but possibly french artist) to study the art using AI. They then used AI to compose an entirely new painting based on the artists vast array of works, right down to mimicking the brush strokes and techniques as well as subject of the works in order to predict what the artists next work would look like.
In effect, the very first use of AI for copying artists' work/methods into a new panting by them was precisely from traditional physical paintings, unfortunately.
