It doesn't copy, it "synthesizes" the information. That is why it's called "latent representation". If i look at one apple, i can draw one apple. But we don't do we? We have seen thousands of apples. Do we remember them? No. We remember the "latent representation of an apple" aka the idea of "apple". Then our non perfect neural network adds some random noise, our non perfect body adds some imperfect translation and we draw our "version" of some apple. I can look at something done in Bauhaus style and say "it's mostly geometric forms with plain colors with...". That describes the STYLE of Bauhaus, not anything that was ever done.
And let's turn the question around. Will artists attribute to someone everything they ever saw? Why should AI conform to rules WE DON'T?
