I have a cousin who is T1D, she has a computer now that automatically tests her blood sugar and pumps in the right amount of insulin, but before that it was a lot of counting what she'd eaten, doing some math, and then measuring out the right dose for what she had just eaten and injecting herself. What the body does to self regulate is amazing, and when that starts to break down you realize how much work all of these things that happen below your consciousness are.
