Oh boy, the arrogance in this comment... Actual IT tech guy here: There is currently not a single "AI", that is capable of creating something new. All they do, is create an approximation of all the art they have in their database, nothing more. It is obvious in image generation, and it is even more painfully obvious in text generation (which you would notice if you had read as many novels as i have). The "AI" making mistakes doesn't change the fact, that it's just a mathematical model based on data that was illegally obtained. Remember how big corp got mad at normal people stealing movies and songs? Yet somehow it seems fine to steal other peoples content, when it is done by big corp? These mistakes also are not proof for originality. There is no thought process behind it. The machine behind it didn't think "this would be cool", it simply threw out the result of a massive mathematical model, while burning through a massive amount of energy. AI would never come up with the drawing style of Ghibli if it didn't have that particular style in its database. It would never come up with the style of Keith Haring without having it in its database. It would never come up with anything remotely new at all. No matter how amazing you are at typing text into a textbox. So, no, human inspiration is not the same as remixing a shitton of pictures in a mathematical model. Many human ideas come up when they're bored, dreaming, drunk, coked up, in love, happy, and so on. Also, no, asking a machine to print out a picture doesn't make you an artist. That's like asking some dude or dudette on Fiverr to draw you a picture and then turn around and call yourself Van Gogh. That kind of behaviour used to be called "fraud". It would be different if "AI" would be used for enhancing your own process, like letting it do cleanup work, or filling the background intelligently, or cutting out backgrounds, or fixing up some artefacts in photos, or something like that. That's fine in my book. But using it to create the entire picture is just lazy af.
