the key issue is not the capability of AI, it's that people go through their training by using AI as a crutch without ever actually developing the skill level required to steer and supervise AI properly. sure "knowing some basics from college" is sufficient for you to do some casual coding once in a while, but that is precisely because coding is not your main job. if it is, it'll quickly become apparent that basic technical knowledge is not nearly enough to help you get the job (which WILL be complex stuff) done competently, because your skill will have to be ABOVE the ai in order to properly identify and fix all of the ai's mistakes. imagine some guy who did all his mechanical engineering homework with AI trying to work as a mechanical engineer lol
