The AI "godfathers" mentioned in this video—Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, both Turing Award winners, with Hinton also holding a Nobel Prize—have no financial interest in the industry, having broken with it long ago. They have been sounding the alarm for several years and support all attempts at regulation (which lobbyists from the AI industry fiercely oppose). Notably, they both signed the Call for Global AI Red Lines presented at the UN last September and the Statement on Superintelligence from last October, which call for a halt to the development of frontier models. No industry heavyweight has signed such appeals, of course. You only need to listen to an interview with Yoshua Bengio to see how utterly independent he is from the industry. You'll also likely find that his concerns are sincere and based on scientific evidence.
