AI companies will claim if they have to follow what normal people will refer to as moral and ethical - they'll be DOA. That's just untrue. It will simply substantially slow down AI (which I feel is a good thing, mind you). Nothing is going to _stop_ AI. AI is just a fancy word for "complex algorithms". Since there are no explicit laws - they are abusing it to fast track development and for extremely cheap. I suspect the CEO's know the hammer is coming and they are trying to move as fast as they can to get as far as they can because once the hammer falls - it's going to be EXPENSIVE because then you need to pay copyrights and such. The demand we're seeing now will all but cease. It'll be good for everyone involved.
Problem is.. not all countries will respect that. So.. it's a weird game we're playing here.
I have no idea how far away we are from AGI though but I speculate at least several decades for even the local horsepower to run it. AGI is the end-game.
